ArtCon - AnonymousOn Saturday, June 4, please join Art Conspiracy for Art Con ANONYMOUS. Featuring 39 local artists, ANONYMOUS challenges each artist to create a piece of collectible art using only grayscale values, allowing us to construct an atmosphere of anonymity as, at first glance, each creation and its creator will seem ANONYMOUS.

Combining the forces of creativity and philanthropy, we set out to create public awareness for the arts and to bring artists and musicians together — to “conspire” for the benefit of the local arts scene.

Completed works will be presented for live auction starting at $20, raising money for this year’s beneficiary, who will be announced at ANONYMOUS.

Enjoy the signature beverage, “Incognito”, from Mokah Coffee Bar.
Musical performances include SuperSonic Lips, Vodeo, and Son of Stan DJ Set.

SuperSonic Lips
SuperSonic Lips’ sound is genre-fluid and would take an imaginative sentence to describe adequately. Just when you’re satisfied that you’ve correctly identified their music as a moody punk/rock/pop hybrid, Saulo’s guitar psyches the crap out of you. Though there’s a Latin influence to tracks like “Affliction Sweetness,” they have a joyfully dark aesthetic, like a happy band that’s caught an (un-alarming) case of ’90s depression. YaYa Lion and her group describe the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Metric as their biggest influences, while Saulo offers a clever description: “call it omnivore rock, because it feeds off everything.”https://www.facebook.com/supersoniclips/

Vodeo
This Fort Worth-based four-piece formed late in December 2013 and was drawn together to form a sound that is simply… Vodeo – live instruments layered with electronic elements, catchy song-writing and melodies. Tunes that consist of groove and dance-ability are the bullet points to this group’s success. “We want to play songs people enjoy, wanna shake and have a good time to,” says Jacob Pullig. Fort Worth Weekly’s Anthony Mariani says Vodeo is “not only the best yacht-rock band around, they’re easily one of the best. Period.” He also calls their latest release, “an exceptional release whose most thoughtful tunes are ready for drive-time rotation.”

Son of Stan
Son of Stan is the moniker of Jordan Richardson, a Fort Worth-based singer-songwriter, drummer, and producer who has collaborated with an impressive list of artists, including Ben Harper, Natalie Maines, and Ringo Starr. As a member of Ben Harper’s band, Relentless 7, Richardson toured all over the world and even co-produced a Grammy Award-winning album titled, “Get Up.” After many years touring and recording, Richardson chose to return to his roots in North Texas to pursue his longtime goal of writing, recording, and producing on his own. He has since worked on numerous local and national releases, and he plays regularly all over the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

A Battle, A Transformation

Matt BrinstonArtist: Matthew Brinston

Dates: February 17 – March 28

Reception: Saturday, March 28 from 6-9pm.

Title: A Battle, A Transformation

Use of multimedia painting on wooden surfaces is consistent throughout Brinston’s show, and is supplemented with visually striking large-scale paintings on canvas. The works were the artist’s way of working through his difficult recovery after a nearly fatal motorcycle accident, and the realization that life wouldn’t be the same.

Dates: December 3 – January 4

Reception: Saturday, January 3 from 6-9pm

Title: Itinerant Repetitions

A local homeless man named Gwyn likes to make drawings. He wanders, he sits, he draws, and he disperses his sketches on the streets of Deep Ellum. Joel Triska has collected these drawings for years and has donated them for display at Mokah Art Gallery. With the help of photographer, Justin Clemons, the exhibit attempts to not only share the artwork of Gwyn, but tell his story as well.

An Evening of Dance Unraveling and Unveiling M2DT surprises its audience this season with the visions of two exciting choreographers: from Colorado, Megan Odom, and from California, Randee Paufve. Odom’s work, fueled by her studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, employs bubble wrap to examine the modes and materials individuals use to isolate and insulate while adapting to evolving cultures. Paufve’s work, That Obscure Subject of Desire, explores the paradoxical nature of love and desire with full, lush, emotional dancing.  Come see M2DT on November 1st and 2nd as they unravel and unveil.
